We Interrupt This Blog To Bring You A Message From Autumn

Gentle Reader, if you lived in Maine you'd be home by now - as the sign of the interstate says - and you would see a touch of God's grandeur today. The storm system that made yesterday rather relentlessly damp is moving east. The eastern sky, therefore, remains thunder and steel, blue and gray. The clouds in the west are dense and white, giving way here and there to patches of blue. This overcast sky is broken in spots by brilliant shafts of light playing off the colors of the trees. The range of reds you can see from Pudentilla's windows (pomegranite to claret) is punctuated by brilliant oranges and yellows. There is still some green undereath, not yet giving way, clinging to summer in vain. Such riches we are given as gifts.
