Election to Be Scrutinized for Irregularities: "Mounting concerns about voter registration foul-ups, election machine defects and other problems that might undermine the presidential election have spurred dozens of organizations to plan extraordinary efforts to scrutinize the polls on Nov. 2. "
If, as some experts predict, a deluge of lawsuits and post-facto disclosures of technical and equipment failures accompany a close election in November, there will be no acceptable excuse. Election officials (of all parties) and state and congressional representatives and the media have had four years to observe and fix what we have known is a terrible problem. If we have a repeat of the system failure of 2000, then, as Mr. Bush likes to say, heads should roll. If it's Jeb Bush attempting to illegally purge African-American voters in Florida or Richie Daley attempting to double count Irish-American voters in Chicago, heads should roll.
This is simply outrageous. If the system is still broken, we need to determine whose interests are served by undermining the infrastructure of democracy in America. Then we should jail them.
