Republican Contempt Junkies

We know we should not be surprised, but we confess, we are still wrapping our mind around the fact that Rush Limbaugh, who avoided service in the Vietnam war through an anal cyst, would call a marine who served in Iraq a "civilian affairs puke" - any kind of puke, really. It's old news that the Reds are terrified that the populace at large will start to notice that duty, honor, bravery and loyalty are sufficiently rare virtues that they tend not to be partisan in nature. Once that observation is made, the citizenry may notice that while the Reds talk alot about these virtues, and indeed claim a partisan monopoly on them, the Reds, in fact, are more show than go.

Even more than they fear the collapse of their claims to have cornered the virtues market, and the consequences of that collapse,however, the Reds are addicted to the emotion of contempt. Expression of contempt for what they don't understand (and we realize that the number of things the Reds don't understand is legion) and therefore fear is the defining psychological and rhetortical characteristic of Reds.

We used to believe that there were Republicans who were not Reds. But, awash in the waves of silence from Republican leaders in response to Rush's comment, and il Ducetto's assertion that intelligent design should be taught with the theory of evolution (no dynamite involved, but is that claim really very different in kind from the Taliban's decision to blow up the Bamiyan Buddahs?), we no longer believe the distinction is worth maintaining. They're all Reds, they're all contempt junkies, and they're all pukes.
